Cancer survivors appreciate life more than most. Imagine if you will, being a child and a cancer survivor. After what has been a horrific ordeal, this child is now ready to begin life again. Most have dreamt of college, only to understand some very humbling facts. First, their family has more than likely been financially set back by this disease. They’ve probably missed a good share of school, so their academic achievements probably won’t qualify for any kind of scholarship. And sport achievement, well that went out the window the day they heard the word “cancer”. Joyce Bytof, herself fighting this awful disease, decided to do something about this. In 2007, Joyce in collaboration with the American Cancer Society established the Joyce and Otto Bytof Endowment Fund. This fund awards scholarships each year to a survivor of childhood cancer who is graduating from high school and wants to continue their education at a college, university or technical school. And all the money is awarded to students that reside in Northeast Wisconsin (with a strong preference to Fox Valley area). Please help us to build our endowment so that these children of cancer will have a reason to keep on dreaming long after the disease tried to strip them of dreaming.
