Nature Retreats

Beautiful summer weather is upon us, and it's a terrific time to visit Homer Glen homes for sale.

An incorporated village with about 24,000 residents, Homer Glen is a southwestern suburb of Chicago, and our real estate agents know that natural beauty is one of the area's biggest charms. Let's visit some of Homer Glen's best nature preserves and parks:

  • Messenger Marsh – South Bell Road, Homer Glen, IL 60491
Messenger Marsh is one of two local forest preserves. The larger of the pair, it sprawls out over 620 bounteous acres within the 1,900-acre Spring Creek preservation system. A 3.44-mile segment of the Spring Creek Greenway Trail makes it ideal for biking, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing. There's even a whole seven acres dedicated to off-leash fun with canine pals under 35 pounds.

  • Messenger Woods Nature Preserve – Bruce Road, Homer Glen, IL 60491
The smaller of the two local wooded preserves, Messenger Woods is a 441-acre property with nearly two miles of natural surface trail. Locals love to use it for hiking and running. Outside of the designated nature preserve, you can find an additional 1.3-mile span often used for skiing and snowshoeing. There are four primitive campsites overall, each one offering a maximum capacity of six people per site.

  • Stonebridge Park – 16065-16071 South Stonebridge Drive, Homer Glen, IL 60491
Stonebridge Park has just about all you could want for a family day out at the park, including a fitness course, lighted basketball and volleyball court, shaded pavilion and other picnic areas, a playground, and tennis court. At 5.61 acres, there's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy.

  • Erin Hills Park – 13725 South Dublin Drive, Homer Glen, IL 60491
Erin Hills Park is spread out across more than 14 and a half acres, giving it plenty of space for its popular putting green. A large gazebo, picnic areas, and playground mean fun for all ages. Feel like communing with nature? The scenic nature lookout is adjacent to many large ponds and walking trails.

  • Heritage Park – 14240 West 151st Street, Homer Glen, IL 60491
Considered the crown jewel of the Homer Glen park system, Heritage Park is often visited by the area's many athletic clubs thanks to its "Active Core," which includes a challenge course, fitness stations, and courts for a variety of sports: Pickleball, tennis, and beach volleyball are just a few. There's even a "nature play" area for introducing kids to some of the wonders of the great outdoors!

  • Kingston Hills Park – 14848 Carlton Lane, Homer Glen, IL 60491
Found in the desirable Kingston Hills subdivision, Kingston Hills Park is a smaller park at just under two acres. Hikers and bicyclists may want to visit for the connection to the Heroes Trail system, while kids enjoy the swings, slide, and tunnel in the playground area. Stop by on your journey through one of the area's delightful neighborhoods – you could make new friends!

  • Goodings Grove Park – 13900 Greystone Drive, Homer Glen, IL 60491
Goodings Grove Park packs a little bit of everything into a relatively compact, carefully managed three acres. The basketball court is among the only full-sized public courts in the area and attracts games on the weekends. There's also a pavilion, picnic zone, and a playground. Ample parking is provided.
