Kayaking in Illinois

Summer is here, which means it's time to get your paddle on! We're lucky enough to have easy access to beautiful rivers, providing locals with a wide range of outdoor recreational activities. A favorite summertime activity for our real estate agents is kayaking. Whether you like peaceful paddling or winding your way through rough waters, you'll be able to explore waters suitable for all types of kayakers near Winnebago County.

Here are some great local outfitters that can help you out:

  • White Pelican - 201 N 2nd St, Oregon, IL 61061
    The heart of Rock River Valley recreation, White Pelican, offers self-guided tours with your boat of choice. Both single kayaks and two-person kayaks are available to rent from the start of your trip until 5 pm. There are 5 tours to choose from, and shuttle service is provided from your pickup destination back to your car. To reserve your spot, call 815-263-4088.
  • Castle Rock State Park - 1365 W Castle Rd, Oregon, IL 61061
    If you love kayak fishing, Castle Rock State Park is the place for you. The Rock River flows right through the park. Not only is it a popular fishing destination, but there is also an easily accessible boat ramp available for public use. The Rock River Hills area has beautiful rock formations and ravines, so it's one of the most scenic local kayaking spots.

  • Rocktown Adventures - 313 N Madison St, Rockford, IL 61107
    This specialty retailer is the go-to local destination for all things outdoors. Rocktown Adventures sells and rents kayaks and is conveniently located on the banks of the Rock River. Single and stand-up kayak rentals are $30 for two hours or $55 for a full day. Fishing kayaks are $35 for 2 hours or $60 for a full day. The store also offers lessons, gear, and more!   • Larsen's Landing - 1951 New Milford School Rd, Rockford, IL 61109
    If you prefer canoeing over kayaking, check out Larsen's Landing. With 30 acres of wilderness along the Rock River, this outfitter will help you plan canoe trips for up to 100 people. Rates include canoe rentals, transportation, plus all equipment. Trips include boxed lunches and even a buffet meal once you're finished. A visit to Larsen's Landing is sure to be a memorable summer activity. 

  • Kishwaukee Canoe & Kayak Rentals - 218 S Walnut St, Cherry Valley, IL 61016
    For a great kayak ride down "The Kish" section of the river, check out the rentals at Kishwaukee Canoe & Kayak. Boats are deployed in Cherry Valley and end at Atwood Park in New Milford. All in all, it's about an 8.5-mile ride. Kayak rentals are $50 for a single boat and $70 for a tandem. Fees include lifejackets and paddles.
