Downtown Morris

While Morris is conveniently located just 60 miles southwest of Chicago, you don't need to go all the way into the big city for things to do. Downtown Morris continues to grow yearly, and it's now home to numerous restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Since there are always new businesses popping up, it's a lot of fun to spend a whole day exploring downtown Morris. Our Morris real estate agents are always telling clients about new things to do in the area, so here is a quick list of our top recommendations:

  1. Grab A Coffee To Start Your Day
A great way to kick off a day in downtown Morris is by visiting one of the area's local coffee shops. The Alpine Coffee Bar and Brewed Awakenings are popular spots with a great selection of roasted coffees and brewed beverages. These shops are conveniently located near some great Morris homes for sale.
  2. Browse Antiques
Our real estate agents love antique shopping, and there are great vintage shops in downtown Morris: Betty's, McManiacs Vintage, and True North. From classic gifts to vintage home decor, you'll never know what you'll find at these shops, so it's always fun to stop back and explore new inventory. You may also have the chance to meet some of the town's local antique enthusiasts.

  3. Take A Self-Guided Walking Tour
One of the best ways to get to know an area is by taking a walking tour. By walking around downtown Morris, you'll be able to learn all about the area's rich history and observe its beautiful architecture. There is a self-guided walking tour map available on the Morris Downtown Development Partnership website.

  4. Shop For Gifts
Downtown Morris is full of unique shops, so it's easy to spend a whole day shopping around town. If you need a birthday gift or want to tackle your holiday shopping, you'll find clothing shops, gift stores, art galleries, and more. Pout Boutique, The Front Porch, and Apple Butter & Shugie's are some popular shops.

  5. Take A Stroll Along The I & M Canal
The great I & M Canal flows right through downtown Morris, and there is a great trail alongside its banks. A walk along the canal is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise. You can start in Gebhard Woods State Park or access the canal at Canalport Riverwalk Park. The trail will take you by a replica of a canal freight packet boat.

  6. Enjoy A Nice Lunch Or Dinner
You're sure to work up an appetite after all of the shopping, so plan lunch or dinner at one of the many restaurants downtown. You'll find options for pizza, Italian, American, Mexican, and more.

  7. Finish The Day With Dessert
If you crave sweets, there are bakeries, ice cream shops, and candy stores where you can indulge in your favorite treats. Sweet Tooth is a candy and ice cream store with modern candy, nostalgic candy, and numerous ice cream flavors. If you're in the mood for a baked good, you can find your favorite pastry at Morris Bakery
