South Bend Chocolate

South Bend Chocolate Company has been producing mouth-watering sweet treats for more than 30 years now. This factory near our South Bend homes for sale is the perfect place for a quick daytime getaway in Northern Indiana.

South Bend Chocolate Company began in 1991 as a side business for the company's founder, Mark Tarner. In 1994, Mr. Tarner expanded the company into a fully incorporated business with a factory at 3300 W. Sample Street, the same location from which the company operates today. At the time, he and his wife were majority shareholders and were still responsible for most of the company's day-to-day dealings.

Today, the company has grown significantly. In addition to the 60,000-square-foot factory that produces all of its chocolate products, the business also has 11 stores scattered throughout Northern Indiana and another four franchise locations in neighboring states. Their products are also sold in stores nationwide. Not bad for a former side hustle!

Their treats use high-quality regional ingredients to create exceptionally creamy and rich-tasting chocolate that their customers adore.

Taking the Tour

The South Bend Chocolate Company prides itself on its public tours. For just $5 per adult or $2 per child aged 2 to 11, you can get the inside scoop on the chocolate creation process.

Tours last around 45 minutes, depending on what's going on around the production lines that day. You'll get a close-up look at how the chocolates are made and hear commentary from your tour guide, some of the workers, and maybe even some of the company's top executives. You'll also get to sample some of the chocolate being made inside the factory by dipping a spoon right into the chocolate vats (clean spoons only, of course).

Tours are available Monday to Friday between 9 AM and 2 PM, as well as Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM. Each tour also includes admission to the on-site Chocolate Museum. This incredible display contains hundreds of items of chocolate memorabilia, including an ancient Mayan chocolate pot that was once used to produce some of the first chocolate drinks.

On top of your tour and museum visit, you'll also receive a coupon for 10% off any purchase at the South Bend Chocolate Company's factory outlet store. Located just steps away from the factory, this shop sells fresh chocolate products made right next door.

From artisan chocolate bars to chocolate-covered cookies and pretzels, you'll find every chocolate treat you can dream of on these shelves – and because it's an outlet store, you'll love the prices too! There's something for everyone in this incredible selection. Our South Bend real estate agents often pick up gifts for friends, family, and clients here. They're always a big hit.

Most of South Bend Chocolate's products can be ordered by the pound, and you can even get custom labels placed on the packaging if you want to commemorate the occasion. Let the staff know in advance if you want to make a large order like this, though; they may not always have enough of the treat you're interested in on hand.
